Texas Capitol Roof Replacement

2022 to 2024

The Texas Capitol Roof will be replaced in its entirety for the first time in 75 years. The scaffolding is light in appearance because it only is intended to provide fall protection at the edges of the roof, and a platform for workers to reach the gutters.

Capitol Visitors Center


Visitors Center Exterior Preservation and Roof Replacement

03/01/2023 to 04/01/2024

The Capitol Visitors Center and Gift Shop are open to the public. Both entrances are open but the accessible entrance ramp pathway starts on 12th Street. View the Capitol Accessibilty Map .


The 1857 Old General Land Office Building, which houses the Capitol Visitors Center, will be undergoing historic preservation on its exterior stucco and windows. The slate roof will be replaced and rehabilitated.
