Texas Capitol Grounds

The Texas Capitol is surrounded by approximately twenty-two acres of land known as the Capitol Grounds, also referred to as Capitol Square. In 1993, the completion of the Capitol Extension created an entirely new setting for the north side of the Capitol. The 1995 to 1996 restoration of the historic South Grounds returned the park-like setting to its 1888 to 1915 appearance and updated vital systems such as fire protection, water-conserving irrigation, lighting, and accessible walkways.
