The bronze miniature Statue of Liberty stands on a native Texas limestone base. The Boy Scouts of America presented it to the State of Texas and it originally stood to the southwest of the Capitol. The 1990s Grounds Restoration relocated the State of Liberty to preserve the 1888-1915 appearance of the South Grounds. While installing the statue on a new base, preservationists recovered a time capsule. In early 2008, the Capitol Area Council buried the capsule at the Boy Scout camp near Bastrop with a plaque designating a 2076 opening.
