A granite column with a bronze oak and wheat wreath honors the 22,000 Texas men and women who died in service to the nation during World War II (1941-1945). More than 830,000 Texans served in armed services during the conflict. The seventeen-foot tall pillar is a replication of the Texas pillar at the World War II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington D.C.
