Legislative Reference Library
Overview
The State Library originally utilized the Capitol's second floor north wing. The Library maintained important documents of Texas government. Due to space constraints, the State Library moved to its own building in the early 1960s. The Legislative Reference Library, a former division of the State Library, remained in the Capitol. The 1990s building restoration returned original and reproduction glass-block flooring. To reduce noise, preservationists installed a new carpet that matched the color and design of the original linoleum. The Legislative Reference Library houses an impressive collection and is open to the public.
